The Greene County Farmers Market will begin the 2015 season on Tuesday, June 2.
As in the past several years, the market will set up on the east side of the courthouse in Jefferson. Shoppers will be able to peruse the vendor stands promptly at 4 pm and continue until 6:30 pm.
Returning vendors will have old favorites as well as new products to offer. Look for Tina Meseck’s Better For You Bakery goods, including her special gluten-free items. Brad Tronchetti and Tony Pille will have fresh spring vegetables. Just a Mere Farm, which is returning after a few years’ absence, and Moo Meat will have locally-raised meats.
John 15 Vineyard, with delicious jellies and pies, will be there, too. Soy-free, humanely-raised eggs will be available from Price Family Farms. New vendors are also expected to join the market. One of the most popular stands will be the Aktion Club selling popcorn.
A real benefit to our community is that several vendors are able to accept vouchers from WIC and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
As of May 27, the market does not have a meal provider for June 2. Community, church, 4-H, and youth groups are encouraged to apply for schedule openings. Interested groups may call Nancy Rogers at 712-210-1001. “Come to the market on Tuesday and enjoy this wonderful opportunity to connect with area farmers and enjoy some fresh, local foods,” a spokesperson said.
